Comparison asset 3 of 4 · The 15 highest-demand countries for non-resident US founders
How to read this: ✅ = realistic path, documented · ⚠️ = works with conditions/enhanced KYC · ❌ = closed · V = verify current, data thin or moving. Every cell reflects the founder's country of residence; the US LLC is assumed. Check the provider's live list before applying — this table ages from the day it's published.
Legend abbreviations: Merc = Mercury · Wise = Wise Business · AWX = Airwallex · Pay = Payoneer · Blu = Bluevine · Rel = Relay · Str = Stripe (via US LLC) · MoR = Merchant-of-Record tier
The matrix
| Country | Merc | Wise | AWX | Pay | Blu | Rel | Str | MoR | The one thing to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| India | ✅ | ⚠️V | ✅ | ✅ | V | ⚠️ITIN | ✅ | ✅ | Mercury's largest non-resident group. Wise: April 2026 India entity change hits resident personal accounts — verify business-profile impact. Amex GT origin country (listed-but-unverified; RBI data-localisation caveat applies). |
| Pakistan | ❌ | ⚠️ | V | ✅ | V | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ | Mercury and Relay both closed. Wise + Payoneer is the working stack; Stripe via US LLC works. |
| Nigeria | ❌ | ⚠️ | V | ✅ | V | V | ✅ | ✅ | FATF-delisted 24 Oct 2025 — did not reopen Mercury. May 2026 CBN rule: IMTO remittances settle in naira; receive by bank wire to a dom account to keep a USD path. |
| Bangladesh | ❌ | ⚠️ | V | ✅ | V | V | ✅ | ✅ | Same shape as Pakistan: Wise/Payoneer rails + US-LLC Stripe. |
| Philippines | ❌ | ✅ | V | ✅ | V | V | ✅ | ✅ | Standard (not enhanced) Wise KYC — easier documentation than PK/NG. |
| Brazil | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | V | ⚠️ITIN | ✅ | ✅ | Full menu. No comprehensive US tax treaty — affects withholding planning, not banking. |
| Argentina | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | V | ⚠️ITIN | ✅ | ✅ | Cepo lifted 14 Apr 2025 — FX environment transformed; old "blue dollar" workaround content is obsolete. |
| Mexico | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | V | ⚠️ITIN | ✅ | ✅ | Full menu; among the smoothest corridors. |
| Egypt | V | ⚠️ | V | ✅ | V | V | ✅ | ✅ | Verify Mercury's current stance. Local FX access is the real constraint, not the US-side stack. |
| Kenya | ✅V | ✅ | V | ✅ | V | ⚠️ITIN | ✅ | ✅ | Open FX regime locally; Not eligible — GNS bank-issued (Equity Bank). |
| Turkey | ✅V | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | V | ⚠️ITIN | ✅ | ✅ | Verify Mercury current status; otherwise full menu. |
| Vietnam | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | V | V | ✅ | ✅ | Mercury prohibited; AWX regionally strong here. |
| Indonesia | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | V | V | ✅ | ✅ | Same as Vietnam: Wise/AWX + US-LLC Stripe. |
| Colombia | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | V | ⚠️ITIN | ✅ | ✅ | Full menu. |
| South Africa | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | V | ⚠️ITIN | ✅ | ✅ | Full menu; SDA/FCA govern the outbound payment side (see our paying-legally guide), not US-side eligibility. |
Relay column note: ⚠️ITIN means eligible only with SSN/ITIN + physical US address; V means also verify the country against Relay's restricted list (Pakistan is confirmed restricted).
Stripe column note: ✅ means via a US LLC with US bank details — Stripe's direct country support is separate and mostly irrelevant once the LLC exists.
Bluevine column: the international product is country-gated on a list we won't reprint (it moves); V everywhere means check it — that single lookup decides the column.
The three corridor patterns
Fifteen countries reduce to three shapes:
Pattern A — Full menu (India, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Turkey, Kenya, South Africa, likely Egypt-adjacent): Mercury is open, so the default stack is Mercury operating + Wise second rail + Stripe processing, traditional bank vault when travel allows. Your constraint isn't US-side access; it's local tax/FX rules on your side of the wire.
Pattern B — Mercury-excluded (Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia): the working stack is Wise primary + Payoneer receiving (+ Airwallex test) + Stripe via US LLC, MoR if no LLC yet. The exclusion is country-level compliance policy — application quality doesn't change it, and no service can route around it honestly.
Pattern C — Local-FX-constrained (Egypt most sharply; Nigeria for naira-earners): the US-side stack works, but getting money out to fund things, or home usefully, is the binding constraint. That's covered in our paying-legally-by-country guide — the banking matrix can't solve what exchange control governs.
Two corrections this matrix bakes in
Repeated everywhere online and now wrong:
- "Nigeria is FATF-greylisted." It was — and was removed 24 October 2025. The live 2026 friction is the CBN naira-settlement rule for IMTO remittances (effective 1 May 2026), which is a routing issue (use direct bank wires to dom accounts), not a listing issue. Mercury's exclusion predates and survives the delisting.
- "Argentina's cepo means you can't move money." Lifted 14 April 2025. Content built on blue-dollar workarounds is describing a country that no longer exists.
How to use this page
- Find your row. 2. Open the standalone reviews for your ✅/⚠️ providers. 3. Check each provider's live list the week you apply. 4. Build two rails from day one. 5. If your row is Pattern C, read the paying-legally guide before you commit money you can't move.
[CLIENT STORY PLACEHOLDER: one founder per pattern — e.g., an Indian founder on the full-menu stack, a Pakistani founder on the Wise+Payoneer stack, an Egyptian founder navigating the local-FX constraint. Three short boxes beat one long story here.]
Statuses reflect verified information and consistent founder reports as of July 2026, and this table ages fast — every cell marked V, and honestly every cell at all, should be checked against the provider's live documentation before an application. Corrections above are sourced in the underlying research (FATF Plenary Oct 2025; Argentina cepo lift Apr 2025; CBN circular Mar 2026, effective May 2026). We are not affiliated with any provider named.
